Developed by Wellsource, Inc., Oregon, USA, the Personal Wellness Profile is a
holistic measurement of one's overall health status. It makes individuals aware
of those health needs and lifestyle practices that determine personal
well-being. Emphasis is on the factors that you can actually control. Positive
reinforcement of good health practices, along with recommendations for change
where change is needed, is made for each major health area, including nutrition,
exercise, alcohol, stress and safety.
Information from the lifestyle questionnaire, the laboratory tests and the
fitness assessment are analysed by computer and presented in a graphical format
indicating how WELL you are. Whereas a medical profile gives results as normal
or abnormal, your Personal Wellness Profile reports your results as Poor, Fair,
Good, or Excellent, and measures your RISK of falling ill with cancer, heart
disease, etc.
A Personal Wellness Profile is a comprehensive, proactive document that is a
baseline for change. Our objective is not just to check for signs of disease,
but to promote higher standards of health and well-being.
Scientific Basis:
The Personal Wellness Profile was developed by a team of health promotion
specialists, including doctors, health educators, nutritionists, and exercise
physiologists. Recommendations for risk reduction and health enhancement are
drawn from established guidelines of leading health organisations in the USA,
including:
- American Cancer Institute
- National Centre for Health Statistics
- American Cancer Society
- National Institutes of Health
- American Heart Association
- National Mental Health Association
- American College of Sports Medicine
- US Surgeon General's Report on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
What a Personal Wellness Profile is Not:
It is not... a series of medical tests to see if anything is wrong.
It is not... just a medical report for the doctor, but a health report for the
client.
It is not... a judgement on the condition of the client, but a baseline for
change.
It is not... a prescription for recovery from ill-health, but a set of
guidelines for
better health.
It is not... to be put on the shelf until next year, but to be read by the
client
(and his or her family) and used to forge new health habits.
It is not... a one-off intervention, but a part of an on-going programme of
health improvement.
